Fertile Groundworks

PLAY volunteers for Fertile Groundworks have been very active recently, having had events on February 22, March 22, April 26, and May 24. On Saturday, February 22, PLAY volunteers helped the Liver Fertile Groundworks clear weeds and make organic compost. On Sunday, March 22, PLAY volunteers helped the Livermore Fertile Groundworks plant and harvest organic vegetables, including mature cabbages and broccoli, to help the community through food bank donations. The activities included soil cultivation, fertilization, planting, and cleaning up the garden. On Saturday, April 26, although it was drizzling, volunteers pushed through, completing several indoor and outdoor tasks, including planting melons and lettuce in one of the gardens. They learned skills like greenhouse seedling cultivation, vegetable planting, weeding, soil turning and fertilization. On Saturday, May 24, PLAY members got hands-on experience gardening and learned more on how to grow certain plants.
